Week in Review: Lazy?

the lazy runner book

The Lazy Runner by Marie Bean. I picked up the book at my local library last week wondering whether you ‘lazy’ and ‘runner’ should be used in the same sentence. It’s oxymoronic I think, but then I read the book. It was an easy read and quite enjoyable, and yes, you can be a lazy runner.

The Lazy Runner is great for beginner runners and a refresher for the more experienced runners. It touches on various subjects including training, muscles, injuries, nutrition, running oddities and much more. If you’re feeling really lazy, at the end of each chapter you’ll find a summary of the key points. If you’re in a rush you can flick through to the topic you’re after and read through the points to get some motivation. I enjoyed the little running facts and history throughout the book too.

Marie Bean has been running for over 25 years. She is a running coach based with The Lazy Runner running clubs available around Australia as well as offering online coaching so she knows what she’s talking about. You can check out The Lazy Runner website here.

Not really being able to train for anything my running has become lazy. It’s sporadic and has no structure. It’s safe to say, I’ve become very lazy with my running. Reading The Lazy Runner did motivate me to put on my running shoes and refreshed some of the basics of running. While beginning to train for a race is several months away, if I’m lucky, I’m going to remain lazy with my running, run when I feel like it, for how long I feel like, and enjoy the process and my changing body along the way.

Training 7 – 13 Jan

Tue 7/1 – 15 min weights
Wed 8/1 – rest
Thu 9/1 – rest
Fri 10/1 – rest
Sat 11/1 – 30 min run (4.25km) + 30 min prenatal yoga + 27 min walk (2.5km)
Sun 12/1 – 45 min walk (4.25km)
Mon 13/1 – 15 min weights

Not as good as the first week but I can’t complain. Three rest days, a combination of exhaustion, laziness and not feeling well. It looks like I was playing catch up on Saturday but I felt full of energy and really enjoyed being active throughout the day.

How is your training and exercise going?
