Up and running

Second run post-partum. I feel fantastic.

Honestly, I was apprehensive about returning to running. A little scared too.

How would my body feel? Would I still enjoy running? Would my bladder hold up? Could my knees manage the impact? Did I still have it in me to pound the pavement? Was my c-section scar going to be an issue?

Fortunately, I had nothing to worry about.

I’m glad I postponed my running until now. Even though my obstetrician gave me the green light when it came to getting back to training at 6 weeks, my body nor my mind were completely ready to get back into it. Walking was fine. Running was something else altogether.

Then last Tuesday I woke up and felt energised. I was ready to get back into running again. I won’t be running a marathon any time soon but at the moment running 2.5km feels like a huge accomplishment.

After over four months of no running, giving birth and recovering from the c-section, I’m going to listen to my body and take it slow. The plan was to do a run/walk routine. Turns out I didn’t need it. For now I’ll be aiming to run 15-20 minutes two to three times per week and slowly build up to where I want to be.

I feel great. I still love running. I can’t wait till Jack is old enough to be able to run with him in the pram.

Happy Running!
