Fire drills, salads and sore knees

Working on the 30th floor has it’s perks. Water views, lots of light, and being able to stare out the window when I’ve had enough of the computer screen.

Then comes the fire drill.

Once a year we do a practice drill. The entire building does. Walking down 30 flights of stairs can be painful but it’s necessary. Honestly, I’d get more satisfaction from walking up 30 flights (more sore too) but at least I’d get a workout. Every time I walk down I get a bit woozy in the head and my knees hurt after. Fortunately, I had thongs which made the walk down easier.

I couldn’t wait for lunch. Tuna, avocado, cucumber, tomato, corn kernels, and 3 bean mix. My favourite salad of the week followed by strawberries mid afternoon. The salad is so satisfying and stops me from craving chocolate around 3pm. It’s all thanks to the oily tuna and yummy avocado.

After work it was time to hit the gym. The plan: weights and run.

My favourite section to workout at the gym was busy so I headed for the meat section (where all the muscly fellas train), grabbed a couple 10kg dumbbells and a bench and got to work. I like to start my workouts with a few sets of push ups and stationery lunges. It’s my little warm up before the heavy work begins. I felt great and I even overheard one of the trainers commenting on my push up ability to one of their clients. Yay to me, that really got me motivated.

Today’s workout was quick but effective.

3/10 push ups
3/10 stationery lunges
3/8 dumbbell bench press (10kg each arm)
3/10 single legged lunge/squat
3/10 bent over row (10kg each arm)
3/10 squat with dumbbell (10kg each arm)

And then I heard a pop, felt it too. My knee. Not the most pleasant way to end a workout but I was done. It also meant no run. So I jumped on the spin bike instead for a quick 15 minutes. Keeping my fingers crossed that nothing serious has happened to the knee. Hopefully a bit of Voltaren will help.

I’m not sure what happened, but it’s with the knee that clicks each time I walk up stairs or bend. I need to get an ultrasound on it but I’m scared the doctor will tell me I can’t run or train.

So now it’s 10:30pm, I’m exhausted and ready for a good night’s sleep. Nighty night 🙂
