2012 Review

It’s that time of year again. All of December I was waiting in anticipation to put down all the things I want to achieve in 2013. While 2012 didn’t all work out as planned, it was a good year with a lot being accomplished nevertheless. I didn’t achieve all the goals on the list but I did manage a few of the more important ones;
– Spent more time with family and friends throughout the year. I’ve realised I’m both an introvert and an extrovert and that it’s healthy to be social. Duh. It’s taken a while.
– Ran 619km, cycled 959km, and swam 57km  – not as much as I hoped but still. In 2013, I hope to exceed these distances.
– Trained for and completed my first 70.3 Ironman, while it didn’t all go according to plan I did finish with a grin on my face, and couldn’t stop grinning for days after.
– We travelled to Poland for my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary and my cousins wedding all in the same month.
– Completed 12 races throughout the year ranging from the 5km to the 42.2km and the 70.3, while there were no PBs it felt great to be involved.
– Finished writing a draft of my novel. I’ve been writing since I was in primary school. Unfortunately, my inner critic chucks everything out. This time that’s not going to happen.
– I improved my finances dramatically and relearnt to save. I’m nowhere near frugal, not sure if I’ll ever be but I have started making wiser choices with my spending.
– I travelled to more than three new places. There was the cruise in February that included visiting three new places – Lifou, Vanuatu and Numea. Then Jarek and I spent two days in Gothenburg Sweden when we were in Europe in August. Finally, there was Canberra in December.
– We almost bought a house. Almost. The ones we liked kept getting taken from under our noses. But I think it was simply not meant to be. Once we find the perfect place for us it’ll be ours.
How was your 2012? Did you achieve your goals?
