5th Run for Diabetes (Policz sie z cukrzyca)

Today Poland took part in the 19th Wielka Orkiestra Swiatecznej Pomocy (Great Orchestra Christmas Aid). Once a year, everyone in Poland donates a few spare zloty or much more for this charity organisation which raises money for many worthy medical causes – diabetes, children’s hospitals, hospital equipment, etc. Last year more than 40million zloty was raised which is a fantastic effort.

This year we took part in the 5th Run for Diabetes, a charity run organised by the WOSP which helps raise money for the great causes, and gets families and friends involved in this special day.

Given that it was a winter January day, the weather was lovely with a bit of sun coming through the clouds, the temperature at a cool 5 degrees Celsius, and a light breeze. The run was great, more than 3000 participants of all age groups took the streets of Warsaw in orange t-shirts and smiles on their faces covering a quick 5km.

  1. Sounds like a great day out, you two look pretty happy! I smiled to see the Ministry of Culture with that big heart, that building used to freak me out, walking up to the doors is really intimidating!

  2. The Palace of Culture & Science can certainly be intimidating but when it’s lit up in the night sky as it has been over the Christmas period, it looks lovely. It has to be one of my favourite buildings in Warsaw, and I was shocked to hear a year or so ago that they were deliberating on tearing it down – thankfully that issue seems to have been forgotten. Warsaw without its palace just wouldn’t feel like Warsaw.
