Getting Back Into It

When I walked out of the house this morning it was -12 degrees Celsius. Wearing two pairs of gloves, two pairs of socks, boots, jeans, singlet, turtleneck, long sweater, long woolen coat and hat, I was still freezing. After five minutes at the bus stop I couldn’t feel my fingers or my toes. I’m not used to these low temperatures yet everyone else seems to function normally (except for the trains which break down the moment it starts to snow a bit).

I ran today. On the treadmill but I ran nonetheless. I hoped for a decent run. I got a crap one.

Today was my second run in two weeks and it was terrible. I was exhausted after 15 minutes and ready to stop, so I did some weights and afterwards managed another 25 minutes before I gave up and headed for the shower. I’m wondering whether this was due the break in my running, not enough food or maybe I’m coming down with something. I’m not sure but I want my fitness level to improve not deteriorate.

I’m glad I went because now that I’m sitting on the couch typing away, I feel satisfied with the fact that I had a workout. To motivate myself I simply thought about the people who are choosing to train and those who aren’t. I preferred to be in the pack that trains.

Today’s Gym Workout

15 minutes on the treadmill – 2.5km run

25 minutes weights upper body

25 minutes run – 4.5km

The rest of the day is going to be easy. I might try to fit in an abdominal workout tonight and some yoga, go to the hairdresser and do some work from home while watching a bit of silly stuff on television.

  1. I’m amazed by how hard you are working! Good for you!

And I dropped by to tell you that I posted that story in Spanish. I’m in awe that you wanted to read it in the original! Thanks for your encouragement!

  2. Hello, congrats on getting out in the snow! I’m having a snow-theme over on my blog for a while, would you be interested in being interviewed for it? Just a few questions about your training regime and how you had to adapt to life in Warsaw’s winter? ( can’t see a private email link here to contact you?!) It’d be great to get your ideas!

  3. Great! I’ll send you a few questions so, no need to rush for any deadlines either, think the snow will be in Ireland for ages so lots of time to think about running outside:) Thanks!!
