Happy Australia Day!

What it means to me to be an Australian?

It’s wearing flip flops (thongs) with everything,

barbecues with mates,

going for a run on the beach,

smiling at strangers,

socialising with multicultural friends,

slip, slop, slap all year long,

eating Vegemite on toast,

leisurely Saturday morning breakfast at your favourite cafe,

watching the State of Origin or Australian Open,

biting a Tim Tam at both ends and drinking tea or coffee through it,

being grateful for all the beauty and comforts at your doorstep,

being free and respecting that freedom,

Happy Australia Day!

  1. I’ve just found your blog for the first time and had to tell you how much this post made me smile. I spent a short time living in Queensland about 6 years ago and its where I ran my first half marathon. I never could get used to the taste of vegemite sandwiches but I rather enjoyed my introduction to the art of the “tim-tam slam”.
