Three Things Thursday

5:00am
This is my favourite time of day at the moment. While the household asleep, I’m up doing yoga or Pilates. For the past two weeks anyway. I’m hoping to keep it up. Pilates and Yoga are soothing and strengthening for both the body and mind. I’m more relaxed throughout the day, there aren’t as many tingles and aches around my back and I’ve noticed when I run, my knee doesn’t feel as battered. Now that it’s spring, and the days are getting longer, getting up before the birds is not as difficult as it was just a couple of months ago.

5km/10km
Sunday, Jarek and I are doing the Salt Fun Run at Kingscliff. Initially we were going to run the 10km, but given that we hadn’t run at all during our holidays we have decided that the 5km will be a wiser choice. It feels like it’s been so long since we’ve run a race together. No goals for this race, just to have fun and finish. I’m not chasing any PB’s this weekend. I signed us up this morning and I can’t wait till Sunday, well tomorrow night. Since the fun run is hosted by Salt, we’re staying there for the weekend – a little gift for Jarek’s birthday.

Listen to your body
I’m a huge advocate of eating at least five times a day. It helps speed up your metabolism, keeps your blood sugar levels intact and prevents massive binges on Cadbury chocolate bars (so guilty of that today) or triple size dinner plates after work. However, it’s also necessary to listen to your body and that means that those five meals don’t have to be breakfast, lunch and dinner with two snacks in between. Sometimes your body doesn’t want or need as much food so you’re better of just listening to what it’s saying. This week for instance there were a couple of occasions where the thought of eating dinner made me ill, I had a glass of milk instead – while it’s not a full meal it gave me a hit of protein and some calcium and helped me sleep better. Your body knows best.
