Welcome 2011

2011 has arrived and it’s going to be fantastic. Loads of fun combined with lots of hard work but minus the procrastination. ‘Just Do It’ as Nike put it – that’s the attitude for 2011.

This year there are four things I want to focus on: running, writing, finance & general personal development which I think all these areas fall under. A few years ago I told myself I’d stop making plans, after all in life nothing is laid out in concrete and we don’t know what tomorrow will bring let alone six months from now. But we are able to hope for some things, have aspirations to keep us motivated, and dreams that make life the colourful and interesting experience that it is. So here are my goals for 2011:

*Run 1500km by the end of the year which equates to 125km per month. I’ve had months where I’ve run more than that and many that were less than that; this year it’s all about being systematic.

*Race in at least one running or triathlon event each month. I’m not sure what my schedule will be like after February so I’m not aiming for any more than 12 this year. Plus the regular competition will keep me motivated to train throughout the year.

*Sell articles on a regular basis which bring me at least a part time income. I’ve been writing ever since I can remember and I love the idea of being able to freelance. That way I could share my time between Australia and Poland more easily (a big dream but with hard work and determination it could just happen).

*Complete writing my novel that I’ve been working on for some time now and finally send it off to agents. One’s a chick lit type and the other is a thriller – my two favorite genres.

*Read more books. I’ve been a bit slack lately. There was a time when I used to guzzle down books and now I don’t read nearly enough. In order to improve my writing I have to increase my reading. So in 2011 I am aiming to read at least one book a week.

*I love shopping but in 2011 I want to become a smarter shopper and stop wasting money on silly things. It’s better to buy one quality item for $200 than five poor quality ones for the same price – plus it means less clutter.

*Getting rid of all my consumer debt is a must and the first thing I have to do. Fortunately, this shouldn’t take more than a few months.

*Building up a healthy emergency fund and work towards saving 40% of my monthly income.

*Spend more time smiling and laughing with family and friends. I have been too serious the last few years – it’s time to let loose and stop worrying so much.

Each of these goals comes along with a set of tasks that need to be completed each week. I’m going to print the list out and pin it up somewhere I can see it or keep it in my diary to read every day. I read somewhere that people who look at their goals at least once a day are more likely to achieve them. Posting the goals here for the world to see will make me more accountable for them – hopefully J

What are your goals for the fabulous 2011? How are you going to go about achieving them?

  1. I’ve read that too about the goals, and have long planned to make a vison board to inspire myself and stay focused – maybe this will be the year! Good luck with the books, writing and reading:)
