Joining Up

I joined the local gym last week. Initially I wasn’t going to join one but after some thought I realized that it was going to motivate me to work out more often. In all honesty, I’ve been slack with my weight training which is a bummer. I love weights. I used to love doing weights more than I did cardio. In recent years that changed. Now I’d rather go for a run. The gym is going to help me balance all that out. Plus, there’s plenty of classes that I can attend which will challenge my body even further.

I’ve started doing Pilates with my mum two evenings a week and will hopefully add a third session during the weekend. The class is great and after one hour I feel like my abdominals, back and butt have had a fantastic workout. The instructor is great and the hour goes by far too quickly.

The other thing the gym offers is Les Mills RPM (spin bikes). I love RPM. A few years ago I’d attend four or five classes each and even got myself an RPM Instructor qualification which unfortunately I have to say I haven’t put to good use. I’m a bit shy when it comes to doing things like instructing a group. It’s strange, especially considering I managed to speak up in front of my peers and teach them English for three years, leading an RPM class shouldn’t be any different. Hopefully one day I’ll get the courage to do it. For now, I’ll just enjoy being a participant.

I have a lot of plans for this year. Completing a triathlon in May and a marathon in July are just two of them. Over the past few days I’ve been thinking about something else. I started training for it today. I’m not going to mention what it is until I’m 100% certain that I will compete. I’ll let you know closer to the date.

Today’s Training:

Midday: 5km run on treadmill (25:34); 30 minutes full body weights

Evening: 1hr Pilates class

Are you training for anything new this month or year?

  1. I’ve never tried Spin Bikes but one my friends told me that that’s great. She attends SB in one of thenWarsaw’s Fitness club and she told me that there is a special atmosphere there: the lights are partly switch off and they bike listening to the classic music: Mozart, J.S.Bach ect. Sounds nice 🙂
