Training in Review

Late afternoon beach walk

It’s hot. Like really hot. Normally the temperature drops in the evening hours and while it’s nice and cool outside, inside it’s still mid twenties. Generally, I prefer the heat rather than the cold but on night’s like tonight I wouldn’t mind if the temperature dropped a couple more degrees.

The windows are wide open for the fresh air to flow through, the fan is going on high and there’s a glass of cold water by the table that I have to sip on every couple of minutes to stay cool. One week before summer officially starts though it feels like it’s been here for weeks.
Training when it’s hot is tough. Last summer I suffered a lot of headaches after training in the heat. This year I’m planning on being more careful. Yesterday, rather than running at the beach I ran on the treadmill. Sure it’s less fun but it was controlled and in air-conditioning while outside was nearing the high twenties and it wasn’t even 8am. We went for a beach walk this afternoon when the sun had already set, it was breezy and cool. Perfect for a run. Maybe next week I’ll give that a go. There are two options for training outside, either early morning like 5am or early evening around 6pm.
Tonight’s dinner for two at The Cardamon Pod in Broadbeach
Training wise this week has been poor. Work was hectic. I was stressed and ready to hide in a dark spot and not come up. Fortunately, thanks to a great weekend of snoozing, watching Skyfall, dancing, drinking wine and beach walking my batteries are recharged and I’m ready for a great week ahead.
